This squid curry is Andhra style so it's on spicy side. I didn't ate myself this squid masala but really got good review for it and that too when I cooked it first time and. Add garam masala and curry leaves. Cover and cook in low flame, until squids are cooked through; that is when they turn soft and not rubbery.

Steps to make Squid masala koonthal masala:
  1. Heat pan and pour some oil.once the oil is hot add the snouf/peeumjeerakam and then add the onion,ginger garlic paste, green chillies and saute.
  2. Once the onion becomes rose add the chilli flakes,chilli powder,turmeric powder,garam masala etc to it
  3. Add the tomatoes and saute it then add the squid to the masala and mix well.close the lid and cook for about 15 min.
  4. Open the lid and mix well and keep it under low flame to remove excess water and make it a thick masala.add curry leaves and serve hot.

Marinated squids sautéed and further cooked in a spicy masala. Nadan Koonthal Roast or squid roast is a Kerala style preparation of calamari, very spicy, and very traditional. Its dry fry, though you can also make it Koonthal roast is very popular in North Kerala, where I live.though the use of "kudampuli" is not so very popular here in Calicut, I sometimes add. Masala koonthal (spicy squid masala/calamari masala). Squid roast is also called Koonthal roast or Kanava roast in Kerala.
